How Near Coding Helped Photofy Launch Their First Web Application

A Milestone Project in Our Nearshore Software Development Journey

Back in 2012, Near Coding was a young and ambitious company, securing projects through freelance platforms such as oDesk, Elance, and Rent-a-Coder—many of which no longer exist.

These platforms allowed companies to create “Agencies,” which functioned as virtual software development firms within their ecosystems.

At the time, Near Coding operated as a fully functional Nearshore Software Development company with four in-house developers working from our office in downtown San José, Costa Rica.

Through these platforms, we won an hourly-rated contract to develop a web application for Photofy, a company led by Jesse Flores. Our role was to provide a Bilingual Intermediate .NET Web Developer, who was carefully selected, tested, recruited, and supervised by Near Coding to ensure the project’s success.

Understanding Photofy’s Vision

Photofy provided Near Coding with a Requirements Document (RD) and wireframes outlining their vision.

Our Solutions Architect designed the architecture for the web application, covering the front-end, back-end, database, and infrastructure to bring the first version of Photofy for Web to life.

Photofy 1.0 was built as a crowdsourcing platform that enabled contributors to upload designs, undergo review by in-house specialists, and have their work featured in internal design libraries, where other designers could purchase them.

Our Approach: Agile Development & Transparent Collaboration

Near Coding became Photofy’s first Nearshore Software Development partner, delivering a comprehensive Project Plan and a fully functional web solution. Our work included constant and direct communication with Photofy’s design and QA teams to ensure alignment with their goals.

The project was managed internally using Scrum, with tasks assigned and tracked through Atlassian Jira. This approach allowed us to deliver high-quality results efficiently.

Technology Stack

The platform’s architecture included a normalized SQL Server 2012 database, a RESTful API, a C#-based back-end, and an ASP.NET MVC 4 front-end. The complete technology stack consisted of:

  • Front-End: HTML5, CSS, jQuery, Knockout.js, Razor Syntax

  • Back-End: C#, ASP.NET MVC 4, WCF, Entity Framework 5.0, LINQ

  • Database & API: SQL Server 2012, RESTful API

  • Project Management: Atlassian Jira

Commitment to Security & Compliance

At Near Coding, security and confidentiality are paramount.

While we kept screenshots for documentation, all source code and data were securely delivered to the client (Mr. Flores) and retained for only 90 days post-delivery before permanent deletion.

We maintain high standards in data protection and confidentiality and are always happy to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) with our partners.

Client Testimonial

“Excellent work, great team, will use again.”
